I've only had the saw for a few weeks, not the best time to write a review, [...] First the saw: I love this saw. I looked at, I have to believe, every 10" compound on the market, the Dewalt to Craftsman to the Shopmasters. The Makita stood out for me as premier. It is nearly 10 pounds lighter than the Dewalt and Rigid (Rigid was my second choice; 3 year warranty!), as well as much better designed. I like the vertical D more than the horizontal, I think I'm in the minority on that, but that design allows for much easier portability, the trigger-handle doubling as a carry-handle. I do a lot of cutting on the ground, moving the saw around (I was not going to set this up in a shop), so that was real important. I also find the vertical design more comfortable to use. It is also about $[...] less than the Dewalt, AND it includes the vertical vise (Dewalt includes no vice, RIgid has a horizontal). The light is also really valuable. When I was first looking, I brushed it off as unnecessary, but when I checked out the "f" style in a store, I changed my mind. The light is super bright and as such adds a lot more visibility to the deck when its turned on, no matter the conditions (gloomy or bright). If you have the extra $25, I would recommend it; a lot more useful than the laserline on some other models. The only con compared to the Dewalt is that the degrees for the left miter and the bevel only go to 45 (though the right miter goes to 52) , which can hamper you if you are doing finish work. The Dewalt is more even, 50-50 on the miters, 47 on the bevel. I don't think it needs to be said, but the Makita is a quality tool, very well built, well finished, does not seem they cut corners anywhere, though it is "spartan" as one other reviewer said.[...]
