Runs Hot and Bogs Down
By ChipVerified Purchaser from Rockaway Beach, Oregon on 11/3/2007
Pros:
Easy to Handle, Powerful
Cons:
Sticks with Heavy Grass
Best Uses:
Trimming Around Rocks
Describe Yourself:
Do-It-Yourself, Handyman
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Tall grass and weeds wrap around the shaft at the head and bog the unit down. In use, it has to be unclogged by hand about every 2 or 3 minutes. The motor runs very hot, requiring cool down breaks about every 10 minutes. The disposable REX line kits are simply not available at any retail store or web site I could find, including [...] You can seperatly purchase the retainer ring [...], and build your own kit. It takes about 15 minutes to carefully cut and insert line into the retainer using a diagonal cutter, screw driver, and hammer. I got about 30 minutes of trimming out of the original REX kit. Having 6 strings, the unit cuts fast, but the motor is not up to the load in tall beach grass. This unit would work well for light duty trimming of lawn grass around rocks but it's not good for tall beach grass and weeds, making it a poor value. A conventional bump feed two string head would work much better.

Heavy but gets the job done.
By LawnguyVerified Purchaser from Charlotte, NC on 9/18/2007
Pros:
Cord Attachment, Ergonomic Grip, Powerful
Cons:
Heavy for electric, Uses Lots of Line
Best Uses:
Weeds & Tall Grass
Describe Yourself:
Do-It-Yourself
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Nothing special about this trimmer. It's a little heavy for an electric trimmer, but the balance is not too bad. The cord hookup is nice. The line wears out quickly when trimming around rocks or concrete. The line guard is a little large for storage.
