Trees and shrubs need periodic deep watering. Apply enough water to wet the entire root zone and to encourage deep rooting. Deeper roots are better able to withstand periods of drought; shallow watering, on the other hand, leads to shallow roots and plants that are susceptible to drought and strongly affected by fluctuating temperatures.

Consult with your gardening expert about desired frequency of watering.

The product is very easy to use.As mentioned in other comments that it definitely will help to conserve water usage as well as to help the trees to grow better. Also it'll keep the surface soil dry so that less weeds will grow.
The only draw back is that it doesn't come with a shut-off value. But I solved it by buying a very inexpensive garden hose shut-off value from a hardware store and it works perfectly. Now I don't have to run back and forth to turn the water on and off while deep root watering. I can control this at my figure tip. Also this product is very useful in helping to pull those stubborn deep rooted weeds out of the soil. With the water turned on, just push the tip of the device towards the root area of the weed for a little while so as to loosen the soil around it and then just pull and the whole weed will be out easily.

I planted a 20 ft tree in early spring and since I started using The Deep Root Irrigator I can get the water to the roots faster and use less water, than i would watering the tree using a sprinkler. The tree has better color and is not effected as much by the heat. I like the sturdy construction and the soft hand grips, it is easy to use with very little effort. This product is well worth the money.

This root irrigator works beautifully. It allows you to get water to your trees and shrubs without having it run all over the surface and without watering the weeds. It is very solid, gets deeper than others I have used, and has a very durable Hammerite type paint finish. The only drawback is that is doesn't have a shutoff knob.

Poor design

Poor design

Wish I didn't have to do

Single hole in end clogs with dirt when device is pushed into the ground, so I have to pull it back out once I make the hole, to be sure it is working. Then, if water is turned on too hard,it blasts out the single hole too fast. Old styles of this device had holes on sides at multiple levels to distribute water, reduce force of flow, and minimize clogging with dirt. Also, old styles of this device usually had a small jar in which you could put fertilizer to push to roots, instead of having yet another attachment necessary to accomplish that. Also, no shut off on device as on old styles - have to add yet another attachment. When you get done with all the attachments, then there is little room left to get a firm grip on the handle to insert the rod into hard soil because the hose connection is too close to the T handle. Very disappointed, but can't find any other model, so I guess we're stuck with the cheap replacement for a formerly excellent design. [...]
