I've read the reviews that said these deteriorated fast, but I've had mine for years with minimal touch-up on the blade's edge. I suppose if I left it out in the lawn for a week, it would probably deteriorate, but then I'd deserve it. The latch catches and holds it shut every so often when I'm using it, but not nearly as bad as most others I've seen, and it doesn't slip off when I don't want it to. I spray mine down with WD-40 between uses, and it doesn't have a spot of rust on it. Of course, it did make the Bond label fall off, but - you know... that doesn't impact their work. I've also had several other people try the pair I've had for years out, and then go buy a set themselves.

Works great but breaks too easily.

This product is fine for backyard gardners however plan on it breaking down if you use it frequently. The spring breaks down and the blade does not hold its edge. Sharpening the blade is impossible. I liked the knuckle protector and the racheting worked very well for the first few months. I'm replacing mine and buying another style for comparison. Very competitive cost because it's made in China.
